Le chteau Larcis Ducasse est depuis longtemps la source d'un trs grand vin. En 2012 ce chteau accde au rang de Premier Grand Cru Class Saint-Emilion. La typicit de son terroir tient la prsence d'argiles calcaires sur des parcelles exposes plein sud. Les mots atteignent donc des maturits impressionnantes et donnent naissance des vins complexes et ronds. On retrouve le caractre opulent du merlot libournais, des armes francs de fruits mais aussi une grande lgance et beaucoup de profondeur.

Histoire du Chteau

Les vins de Larcis Ducasse taient dj considrs comme trs qualitatifs ds le 16e sicle. En 1867, une mdaille d'or l'Exposition Universelle de Paris rcompense les vins du domaine. En 1893, Henri Raba rachte la proprit. Il y investit une grande partie de sa fortune afin de rnover le chai et entretenir le vignoble en terrasses. sa mort, c'est son fils qui hrite du domaine, puis le transmet sa nice, Hlne Gratiot Alphandry en 1941. Aprs la fin de la guerre, c'est l'aide du rgisseur Pharaon Roche qu'elle dirige le domaine. En 1990, son fils lui succde. Avec l'aide de son rgisseur, Philippe Dubois, il perptue la tradition de qualit Larcis Ducasse.

Aujourd'hui

Nicolas Thienpont, de la clbre famille de ngociants et propritaires du bordelais, est rgisseur du chteau depuis 2002. Il contribue propulser un peu plus chaque jour le chteau Larcis Ducasse vers l'excellence. Leurs efforts ont t rcompenss en 2012, le chteau Larcis Ducasse a t promu Premier Grand Cru Class Saint-Emilion.

Couleur sombre et intense. Nez aromatique, au fruit mr et frais. Dlicieux ds l'entre en bouche, raffin au toucher, plus en armes qu'en corpulence, le vin glisse jusqu'en finale tout en douceur. Bonne longueur savoureuse, qui ne marque pas le tannin.

A fleshy, opulent wine, the 2022 Larcis Ducasse bursts with aromas of rich, creamy berry fruit mingled with aromas of licorice, bay leaf and spices. Full-bodied, broad and enveloping, it's a textural, layered wine with a ripe core of fruit, supple tannins and an expansive finish. More dramatic and unabashed than the 2020, this will appeal to readers who place a premium on flamboyant extravagance; but samples tasted later during my visit to Bordeaux exhibited greater freshness and precision.

This is really precise with a lazer-guided fine tannin structure throughout the wine, and juicy and electric texture. Its so refined and polished. Endless. Wonderful young wine with a terrific future.

Lifted, red-berry aromas with a touch of spice. Generous fruit fills the mid palate with plentiful tannins behind. No lack of matire. Big, chewy tannic base. Slight glow of alcohol on the finish. Promising but needs to come together.

Tasted on multiple occasions and one of the legendary wines in the making from this vintage, the 2022 Chteau Larcis Ducasse clocks in as 86% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc that's still resting in 55% new French oak. A hypothetical blend of the 2005 and 2018, it's a deep, powerful, opulent Saint-Emilion offering an incredible array of black cherries, blackberries, smoked tobacco, chocolate, and graphite-driven aromas and flavors. With a rich, full-bodied, expansive mouthfeel, it has ultra-fine tannins, beautiful symmetry in its tannins, acidity, and fruit, no hard edges, and a killer finish. I was lucky enough to taste this on four separate occasions and I thought it had the potential to be a perfect wine every time.
